Several years ago, photographer and author Matt Bamberg decided to submit his photography for the articles he was writing while working for the alternative paper, the Desert Post Weekly. His writing had focused on popular culture - essays about topics from the Santa Cruz, California, surf culture to the mid-century modern architecture revival around the world. While a graduate student in the Inter-arts Center of San Francisco State University, Matt got his start in composition by studying interaction of text and image on video and within children's multimedia software programs. He received his MA degree in 1997. After he graduated he moved to film and then digital photography.
