Wendy Ward, Director, Preservation Napa Valley (PNV), a nonprofit, historic cultural resources preservation organization based in Napa, CA. Through advocacy and innovative, public education programs, Preservation Napa Valley is helping Napa County conserve many of its defining cultural resources, from architecture to agrarian landscapes. Barn Tour 2009 will be held on August 30, in partnership with the Napa County Farm Bureau celebrating Napa County's rich agricultural history, symbolized through its iconic barns. In addition to the Spring Mountain Vineyard barn, four other historic barns in or near the town of St. Helena are part of the afternoon event: the Varozza barn, Napa Valley Olive Oil barn, the Blue Stocking and the White Barn. Jennifer Garden is co-owner of the Blue Stocking Barn. A limited edition commemorative poster, designed by illustrator Mike Gray and produced by Jennifer Garden of Blue Stocking Press, will raise additional funds for PNV.

Spring Mountain Vineyard, in support of Preservation Napa Valley and the Napa County Farm Bureau, will open its 1886 'Parrott' barn on Sunday, August 30th from 1pm - 5:30pm as part of Barn Tour 2009. Ticket holders will drive to each barn at their leisure to see and feel the unique beauty and sense of place of these St. Helena landmarks. All of the barns date to the 19th century, yet are used today in a variety of ways- an artist's live-in studio, a family owned retail space and a winery museum of antique farming equipment, to name a few. Docents will supply the histories for each barn as attendees meander from field to old town to vineyard. After visiting four barns, attendees will gather at the illustrious White Barn on Sulphur Springs Road, where acoustic blue grass music, an exhibition of local art, noshes, nibbles and wine will provide ambiance for sharing the day's experience. A brief presentation will be made by Preservation Napa Valley director Wendy Ward about the history, importance and rehabilitation of Napa Valley barns. Valli Ferrell is Director of Public Relations for Spring Mountain Vineyard. Her husband, Tom Ferrell, has long been the winemaker.
