Show Info:
Countdown to College Radio Show covers anything and everything related to preparing for--and getting into--college. In each show, we get the inside scoop from college admissions personnel, college professors, and other experts discussing topics such as high school coursework, summer activities, application essays, standardized testing, financial aid, and the emotional ups and downs that most families experience as the family teen makes the transition to young adulthood. In most episodes, we also do a college profile to introduce listeners to colleges they may not know much about (or have never heard of) to help give a sense of the vast array of college choices available to today's high-school students.
Host Bio:
Show producer and host Beth Pickett graduated with distinction from Stanford University in 1986. She holds a College Counseling Certificate (also with distinction) from UCLA and was an adjunct college admissions counselor at the Grauer School in Encinitas, California.

MP3 players such as the iPod give students new ways to access and enjoy works of literature that can be overwhelming when first met in book form. Works by authors such as Homer, Virgil, Dante, Chaucer, Shakespeare, Dickens, and others use language (often in translation from the original Greek, Latin, Italian, or Old English) that differs from modern English in ways that make reading it from a book difficult on first encounter. But a skilled narrator can bring these works to life and help students develop a solid understanding of plot, character, and emphasis. Coupled with free lectures from iTunes U, students can take control of their own education and develop a solid understanding of these works that will make reading them on paper both more enlightening and more enjoyable.
