After his father tragically passed away from a heart attack, Eric began his mission of bringing fathers and children closer through shared experiences of loss. Learning the importance of serving others unconditionally from his father, Eric donates 25% of each book to Habitat for Humanity, with a goal to raise $1 million, in honor of his father and his favorite charity.

He is a survivor of liver cancer and two transplants and is diabetic. He was a laboratory scientist at UCSF, but after his illness he started organizations to help those with liver disease, which have grown with networks in 26 states. He is also on the steering committee of the CA Chronic Care Coalition.
